Sam might have heard us telling the cat to get off the table a few too many times - this week, he's started pointing at the cat and saying "Get down!" whenever he jumps up on anything. It's pretty hilarious. Also, even though he refuses to eat them, he's learned to say 'hot dog', and Larry's been teaching him to say it with some emphasis (like the expression). It's really cute to hear him say "Hot DOG"!

Sorry it's been forever since the last update. Sam is getting so big so fast! He's running around everywhere, is talking up a storm (though much of it is still gibberish), and has really been testing his boundaries lately. He now has a 60+ word vocabulary - I will try to update this blog periodically with the newest words he has learned. Sam is also learning more sign language, both in daycare and at home. His newest signs are "chair", "splash", and "change". He also seems to have incredibly good hearing (as I am sure all toddlers do), and can hear an airplane coming before you can see it overhead. At first when he would point to the sky and say "airpane" we would tell him, "No, there's no airplane there". But sure enough, a minute or so later after his announcements, an airplane would almost always appear in the sky. :)
Sam has been on lots of adventures since my last blog post. June was incredibly busy - Sam was out of town almost every weekend. He and Larry went to Wisconsin for a family reunion a few weekends ago. Since we were going to be out of town the next 2 weekends as well, I decided to stay home. It sounds like Sam did great on the plane and had a wonderful time in Wisconsin with relatives! A couple of weekends ago, we went blueberry picking in Houston. Sam stayed at my parents' house while Larry & I and my sister & her family spent a few hours picking berries in the Texas summer heat. Our effort paid off, though; we picked 22 lbs of blueberries! And last weekend, we traveled down to the Rio Grande Valley for my grandma's 95th birthday party. The party was a lot of fun. It was great seeing our relatives on my mom's side of the family again, especially hanging out with some out-of-state aunts, uncles, and cousins that we don't often get a chance to see.
Even though all that traveling was fun, I'm glad that we'll be staying in Austin for the next few weekends. I hope everyone has a happy 4th of July this weekend coming up! :)

Wow, it's been a little while since we last updated this blog. The last month or so has been pretty busy. Sam is growing up so fast! He's learning a lot of new words nowadays - some recent additions to his vocabulary include "bubble" (he *loves* playing with bubbles), "ball", "cheese" (OK, he's trying to say this word, but it's hard for him - sounds so cute to hear him say it!), "crackers", "dog", and "ella" for elephant. :)
Sam's frequent ear infections led to a recommendation that he get tubes in his ears, so he got the procedure done a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't bad at all. Sam did so well - he wasn't upset or crying either before or after the quick surgery. He was just a little groggy after the procedure (they put him under with gas for about 3 minutes so he wouldn't move around while they put in the tubes). Hopefully this will stop all of Sam's ear pain & ear infections!
The weather is finally starting to get a little warmer here in Austin. We've been taking advantage of it by spending more time outdoors - more trips to parks, more stroller rides home from daycare, etc. Sam has really been enjoying the increased time outdoors. He's been exploring the outdoors, running around, picking everything up, trying to put everything in his mouth... I'll be so happy when he finally outgrows the "taste everything" phase!

1st birthday!
I can't believe that Sam is already a year old! His birthday was last Wednesday, and we held a little birthday party for him a couple of weekends ago (on Feb. 6). We had a good turnout for the party, including the attendance of some of Sam's friends, like Abby, Jack, and Rebecca. :) Sam got to eat his first sugary sweet at his party - a cupcake! He hated the frosting on the cupcake, and screamed whenever he got some of the sticky stuff on his hands. Finally, we turned the cupcake upside-down, so he was able to get to the cake part without having to mess with the frosting, and he ate pretty much all of the cake.
Sam got lots of great new toys for his birthday - thanks so much, everybody! Now we have some old toys that need to be given away, because we are quickly running out of space in Sam's room. If anyone wants some hand-me-down infant/baby toys, let me know! :)
